**Bogotá, Colombia** – A shootout in central Bogotá on Sunday, November 17, left two people dead and three injured, including a police officer fighting for his life. Newly released video footage shows the dramatic events unfolding in the Plaza de la Mariposa area.
The video, obtained by Noticias Caracol, depicts a gunman fatally shooting a victim at close range before fleeing. Police officers pursued the suspect, resulting in an exchange of gunfire in a busy street. The footage captures the chaos as bystanders scramble for cover, with at least one civilian being struck by a stray bullet. A woman, who authorities believe was accompanying the gunman, was also injured.
Officer Jhan Carlos Otero, one of the pursuing officers, engaged the suspect, ultimately fatally wounding him. However, Otero suffered two gunshot wounds to the abdomen and is currently hospitalized in critical condition.
Authorities believe the shooting was a gang-related settling of scores. Both the victim and the gunman were undocumented, hindering immediate identification. The injured woman initially claimed her injuries were unrelated to the shootout, but police have linked her to the incident.
The investigation is ongoing, but the incident has sparked fear and concern among Bogotá residents.
