**VISAKHAPATNAM, Andhra Pradesh (November 20, 2024)** – Four men, including the victim’s boyfriend, have been arrested in Visakhapatnam for the alleged gang rape of a 21-year-old law student. The crime, which occurred on August 13th, came to light only after the victim’s parents filed a police complaint on November 18th, following the woman’s suicide attempt.

The arrested individuals are identified as B. Vamsi (27), B. Jagadeesh (27), P. Anand (28), and D. Rajesh (27), with Vamsi and Rajesh being fellow law students. Jagadeesh and Vamsi are also employed as part-time food delivery workers.

Police allege that Vamsi, who had been in a relationship with the victim for over a year, lured her to Anand’s house. Jagadeesh secretly filmed them, and subsequently, all four men allegedly gang-raped the woman, threatening to release the video. Further assaults allegedly took place at Thotlakonda.

The victim’s subsequent suicide attempt prompted her father to report the crime to the II Town police. All four accused were apprehended on November 19th.

Andhra Pradesh Home Minister V. Anitha has directed the Police Commissioner to ensure swift and severe punishment for the accused, promising full support to the victim. YSRCP women’s wing president and MLC Varudu Kalyani criticized the NDA government for its alleged failure to protect women and children, citing a rise in crimes against women in recent months. She called for the reinstatement of the Disha app, a women’s safety initiative from the previous YSRCP government.
