MUMBAI – The Maharashtra Congress party filed a formal complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday, alleging that the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena is using Marathi television serials for illicit campaigning ahead of the November 20 Assembly elections.

State Congress general secretary Sachin Sawant stated that he met with ECI officials and presented evidence of the alleged violation. Sawant claims that posters of the Shinde faction appeared in background scenes of several television serials, a blatant breach of the model code of conduct. He reported receiving assurance from the ECI that the complaint would be thoroughly investigated. The ECI has yet to issue an official statement. Campaigning is currently underway across the state.
