Wed Nov 20 16:35:39 UTC 2024: ## Exit Polls Fail to Predict Outcomes in Three Major 2024 Elections

**New Delhi:** The accuracy of exit polls has come under intense scrutiny following their failure to predict the outcomes of three major elections in 2024. The polls, often cited by prominent political analysts to forecast winning governments, misjudged the results of the Indian general elections, the Haryana Assembly elections, and the US Presidential election.

This has raised serious questions about the reliability of exit polls, prompting an ITV survey to gauge public opinion. The survey revealed a significant lack of faith in exit polls, with 74% of respondents stating their trust has eroded.

A majority (61%) believe that survey agencies do not conduct thorough fieldwork, instead resorting to fulfilling quotas rather than genuinely questioning voters. Furthermore, a substantial 68% of respondents suspect collusion between survey agencies and political parties in manipulating results. Possible reasons for inaccurate predictions cited include respondents not providing truthful answers (44%) and insufficient sampling leading to skewed results (52%).

The survey’s findings highlight growing concerns over the credibility and methodology of exit polls, leaving many questioning their value as accurate predictors of election outcomes. The impact of this perceived lack of accuracy extends beyond the immediate election results, potentially influencing public trust in political analysis and forecasting.
