**Nagpur, Maharashtra –** Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA and former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh was seriously injured on Monday night after being attacked by unidentified assailants in Narkhed, near Katol. The attack occurred near Bela Fata while Deshmukh was returning from a campaign rally. He sustained head injuries and was admitted to a local rural hospital.
The incident has sparked outrage and accusations against the ruling party and questions about police efficiency. Senior government lawyer Ujjwal Nikam, while condemning the attack, cautioned against premature speculation before the police investigation is complete. Nikam suggested that the attack could be politically motivated or stem from personal reasons. He also expressed concern about the increase in attacks and political stunts during election campaigning, possibly fueled by inflammatory speeches. He urged all leaders to exercise restraint.
NCP leaders have strongly condemned the attack. Sharad Pawar expressed his disapproval of the violence, while Supriya Sule demanded a thorough investigation and the arrest of the perpetrators and those behind the attack, attributing the incident to the deteriorating law and order situation under the BJP government.
