**New Delhi, November 16, 2024** – The Joint Admission Board (JAB) has announced a reversal in the eligibility criteria for the JEE Advanced 2025 exam. After recently increasing the number of allowed attempts from two to three, the board has reverted to the previous rule, limiting candidates to only two attempts.
The decision was made at a JAB meeting held on November 15th, 2024, following a review of various competitive requirements. This reinstates the eligibility rules that were in place since 2013.
The notification issued on November 5th, 2024, which permitted three attempts, has been rescinded. Candidates who have qualified JEE Mains can now appear for JEE Advanced only twice.
Other eligibility criteria remain largely unchanged. Candidates must have been born on or after October 1, 2000. SC, ST, and differently-abled candidates receive a five-year age relaxation (birth on or after October 1, 1995). Approximately 2.5 lakh top-ranking JEE Mains candidates are eligible to appear for the JEE Advanced exam. Candidates who have already secured admission in an IIT are ineligible for further attempts, while those admitted to NITs remain eligible.
The news follows the recent release of the UP Board examination schedule for 2025.
