Mon Nov 18 12:42:12 UTC 2024: ## Alappuzha District Court Bridge Reconstruction Begins
**ALAPPUZHA, November 18, 2024** – Construction on a new District Court bridge in Alappuzha town commenced Monday with the start of piling work. The ₹120.52 crore project, funded by the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board and implemented by the Kerala Road Fund Board, aims to alleviate chronic traffic congestion at the existing six-road intersection.
The current bridge, spanning the Vada canal, will be demolished to make way for a modern roundabout design, eliminating traffic signals. The new structure will feature three-lane roads on either side of the canal, along with 5.5-meter-wide flyovers, a 7.5-meter-wide underpass, and 5.5-meter-wide ramps. Traffic flow will be unidirectional on the flyovers and ramps, while the underpass will accommodate two-way traffic.
MLA H. Salam expects the project, undertaken by Cherian Varkey Construction Company, to be completed within two years. Piling work for the flyovers has begun on the canal’s northern side. A Social Impact Assessment by Rajagiri Outreach lauded the project’s potential for significant positive impacts on the town’s development. The new bridge is anticipated to significantly improve traffic flow on the Alappuzha-Madurai State Highway.
