**Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, November 18, 2024** – The Thoothukudi Corporation is set to transform New Harbour Beach with an ₹8 crore development project funded by the V.O. Chidambaranar port’s corporate social responsibility contributions. The project, which will be tendered in the coming days, aims to promote sustainable tourism and highlight the region’s coastal culture.

Planned improvements include a beach market for local artisans and food vendors, a children’s play area, and unique container shops and restaurants built from repurposed shipping containers. Other amenities will include eco-friendly lighting, beach shacks, a salt-making workshop, and signature beach sculptures inspired by Thoothukudi’s heritage. Corporation Commissioner L. Madhubalan confirmed that the survey work is complete and the project will begin after the tender process is finalized.
