Mon Nov 18 15:04:45 UTC 2024: ## Manipur Protests Turn Violent: One Dead, Several Injured

**Imphal, Manipur:** Fresh violence erupted in Manipur on Sunday, leaving one person dead and another injured. Security forces opened fire on protesters in Jiribam district, resulting in the death of 20-year-old AtoByteArray. The incident occurred around 11 pm near Babupura. Protesters also attacked and torched the offices of several political parties, including the BJP and Congress, in Babupura, located just 500 meters from the Jiribam police station. Furniture was looted and offices set ablaze before security forces were deployed to quell the unrest. The situation remains tense.

These latest incidents follow the killing of six members of a single family by Kuki militants in Imphal, which sparked renewed violence. The National Peoples Party (NPP), a coalition partner in the BJP-led Manipur government, has withdrawn its support, citing the government’s failure to address the ongoing crisis.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to meet with officials on Monday, November 18th, to discuss the situation. The meeting will include senior officials from the Northeast division of the Home Ministry, the Home Secretary, the Director of the Intelligence Bureau, and representatives from the Central Armed Police Forces and Assam Rifles.
