Mon Nov 18 02:20:00 UTC 2024: ## Vikings Rookie QB McCarthy Undergoes Second Knee Surgery, But Remains on Schedule
**MINNEAPOLIS, MN –** Minnesota Vikings rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy underwent a second knee surgery this week, but the procedure is not expected to alter his recovery timeline, head coach Kevin O’Connell announced. McCarthy, the team’s highly touted first-round draft pick, initially suffered a torn meniscus in the preseason. This second surgery addressed swelling that developed as he progressed through physical therapy. He also received a biologic injection.
O’Connell stated that McCarthy has been diligently working on his rehabilitation and exceeding expectations. The coach emphasized that the additional procedure was a precautionary measure to ensure there were no lingering issues. “All reports were very positive, and he’s on the original timeline and in good shape,” O’Connell said.
In McCarthy’s absence, veteran quarterback Sam Darnold has been leading the Vikings to a 7-2 record, posting career-highs in completion percentage (68.6%) and passing yards per game (237.9). While Darnold continues to perform admirably, the Vikings remain optimistic about McCarthy’s return and his future with the team.
