Mon Nov 18 08:36:13 UTC 2024: ## GST Annual Return Filing Deadline Extended: Relief for Small Businesses
**New Delhi, [Date]:** The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has announced a relief for small businesses registered under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) system. Businesses with a turnover of up to ₹2 crore in FY 2023-24 are exempted from filing the annual GST return (GSTR-9). The deadline for filing the annual return for other GST registered businesses remains December 31, 2024.
All GST-registered taxpayers, regardless of registration date, are required to file an annual return, except for those specifically exempted. Different forms are used depending on the taxpayer’s category: GSTR-9 for regular businesses, GSTR-9A for those under the composition scheme, GSTR-9B for e-commerce operators, and GSTR-9C for businesses with an annual turnover exceeding ₹2 crore.
Before filing the annual return, taxpayers must ensure all applicable returns for the financial year, including GSTR-1/IFF and GSTR-3B, are submitted. The annual return details yearly sales, purchases, and GST payments. The CBIC’s exemption aims to reduce compliance burden on small businesses. Further details on GST return filing can be found on the CBIC website.
