**New Delhi, November 18, 2024** – A thick blanket of smog has engulfed Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), plunging air quality to “severe plus” levels. In response to the hazardous conditions, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) activated Stage IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) at 8 am today.

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) reported an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 483 at 7 am this morning. Stage IV of the GRAP mandates stringent pollution control measures, including a ban on the entry of trucks into Delhi and a temporary halt to construction on public projects. Further restrictions are expected to be announced as the situation develops. The city is shrouded in smog, significantly impacting visibility and posing serious health risks to residents.
