**Sathyamangalam, Tamil Nadu – November 18, 2024** – A 55-year-old farmer was tragically killed by a wild elephant in the Kadambur Hills near Sathyamangalam on Sunday night. Maran, of Bairamarathotti, was guarding his maize crop on his five-acre farm when he was attacked at approximately 10:45 PM. The elephant, which emerged from the nearby Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve (STR), reportedly trampled him to death. Fellow farmers alerted authorities after the incident, and the elephant retreated into the forest. Forest department officials were notified, and Maran’s body was transported to the Government Hospital in Sathyamangalam. The incident highlights the ongoing conflict between humans and wildlife in the region.
