**Mexico City, Mexico –** Victoria Kjaer Theilvig of Denmark made history on Saturday night, becoming the first woman from her country to win the Miss Universe crown. The 73rd annual Miss Universe pageant, held at the Mexico City Arena, saw over 120 contestants vying for the title. Miss Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina, was the first runner-up, and Miss Mexico, Maria Fernanda Beltran, placed third.

The official Miss Universe Instagram account announced the win, stating, “A new era begins! Congratulations to Denmark, our 73rd Miss Universe. May your reign inspire and empower women worldwide.”

Theilvig, an animal protection advocate and diamond sales professional, received her crown from outgoing Miss Universe Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua. India’s representative, Rhea Singha, made it into the top 30.

The spectacular event, hosted for the third time in Mexico, featured performances by mariachi musicians and Black Eyed Peas member Taboo, singing Emilio Estefan’s “Mexicana.” The pageant was emceed by Mario Lopez, Olivia Culpo (Miss Universe 2012), Zuri Hall, and Catriona Gray (Miss Universe 2018). This year also saw the debut of contestants representing Belarus, Eritrea, Guinea, Macau, Maldives, Moldova, and Uzbekistan.
