Mon Nov 18 17:08:05 UTC 2024: ## Delhi Airport Flights Disrupted by Poor Visibility, Nine Diverted
**New Delhi, India –** Nine flights were diverted and numerous others delayed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) on Monday due to severe weather conditions, primarily low visibility caused by high pollution levels. Eight flights were rerouted to Jaipur, and one to Dehradun.
An airport official attributed some of the diversions to a lack of CAT III certification among some pilots, preventing landings and takeoffs in the low-visibility conditions. CAT III certification allows pilots to operate in extremely poor visibility. While Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) reported that flight operations were subsequently normalized and “low visibility procedures” were in place, the initial disruptions significantly impacted the airport’s usual 1400 daily flight movements.
DIAL advised passengers to contact their respective airlines for updated flight information. The incident highlights the challenges posed by severe air pollution to air travel in the Indian capital.
