Mon Nov 18 17:13:37 UTC 2024: ## Prayagraj Kumbh Mela 2025 to Shine with 40,000+ Rechargeable Lights

**Prayagraj, November 11:** The 2025 Prayagraj Kumbh Mela will illuminate its sprawling grounds with an unprecedented display of lighting, employing over 40,000 rechargeable lights for the first time. This initiative, undertaken by the Yogi Adityanath government, aims to ensure uninterrupted illumination across the Mela grounds, 24/7.

The rechargeable bulbs, equipped with built-in batteries that charge while in use, will provide backup power during any electricity outages. This measure guarantees continuous lighting even in case of unforeseen power failures, enhancing the experience for pilgrims visiting the sacred confluence of the Ganga and Yamuna rivers.

Anoop Kumar Sinha, the electricity department official responsible for the Mela area, confirmed the plan. He stated that approximately 40,000 to 45,000 rechargeable lights will be integrated into the approximately 450,000 planned electrical connections across the Mela. The project, funded within the electricity department’s existing Kumbh Mela budget, is estimated to cost approximately ₹2.7 crore (approximately US$327,000). While each bulb costs ₹600-700, the exact number may vary slightly depending on the final number of camps. This represents a large-scale deployment of this technology, unprecedented in Uttar Pradesh.

Supplemental measures include 67,000 regular lights and 2,000 solar hybrid lights outside the camp areas to ensure comprehensive illumination throughout the Mela.
