CHITRADURGA, KARNATAKA – The birth anniversary of the revered saint and devotee Kanakadasa will be celebrated in Chitradurga on November 18th with a series of events, according to B.T. Jagadish, General Secretary of the District Kuruba Sangha. The celebrations will include a procession, a public lecture, and an awards ceremony honouring individuals who have made significant contributions to society.

A press conference announced that the procession will begin at 9:30 AM from the Kanaka statue on Holalkere Road, led by Sri Eshwarananda Swamiji. The procession, featuring traditional music and dance troupes, will proceed through the city, culminating at the Tarasu Rangamandira. There, Dr. B.K. Ravi, Vice-Chancellor of Koppal University, will deliver a lecture on Kanakadasa’s life and works.

The Kanakasree award will be presented to several individuals for their achievements in various fields, including social work, medicine, and government service. Recipients include Shanmukhappa (Veerashaiva leader), Dr. Satish (medicine), Lingavva Nagathihalli Tippeswamy (social service), Rupakumari (government employee), and Tippeswamy (former chairman of the city development authority).

Further awards will be presented at 6:30 PM at Kanaka Circle to individuals recognised for their contributions to journalism (Malatesh Aras), education (Yogish Sahadrai), environment (Mallikarjunayya), healthcare (Parashuram), and agriculture (Renuka Raj). A musical performance by renowned artists will conclude the evening.

The Kuruba Sangha also announced plans to conduct a community census and focus on community development initiatives. The event is being jointly organised by the district administration, the District Kuruba Sangha, and several other local organisations.
