**BEIRUT, Lebanon** – A senior Hezbollah media official, Mohammed Afif, was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut on Sunday, Lebanese officials confirmed. The strike, which targeted the Lebanese branch of the Syrian Baath party in the Ras al-Nabaa neighborhood, also resulted in three injuries and significant damage to the area.
The Lebanese Health Ministry reported one fatality and three injuries, while the National News Agency (NNA) confirmed Afif’s death. A Lebanese security source, speaking on condition of anonymity, identified Afif as the target. The Israeli army has not commented on the incident.
Afif, a long-time member of Hezbollah’s inner circle and close associate of the late Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah (also killed in an Israeli strike in September), served as the group’s media relations officer for years. He was known for his work with both local and international journalists, often operating under anonymity. His recent high-profile press conferences, including one last month announcing a drone attack targeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s residence, further cemented his role within Hezbollah’s public relations strategy.
The strike comes amid ongoing tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, following almost a year of cross-border exchanges and intensified Israeli bombardment of Hezbollah strongholds since September 23rd. This latest attack adds to a growing list of Hezbollah officials killed in recent Israeli strikes, including Nasrallah and Hashem Safieddine, who was considered a potential successor to Nasrallah.
The NNA reported widespread destruction in the area, noting that some residents were initially warned to evacuate a neighboring building but disregarded the warning. The incident has raised concerns about the escalating conflict and its impact on civilian populations in Beirut.
