Sun Nov 17 08:55:20 UTC 2024: ## Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot Quits AAP, Citing ‘Shameful Controversies’ and Lack of Progress

**New Delhi, November 17, 2024** – In a major political shakeup, Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot has resigned from both his ministerial post and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Gehlot cited a growing disillusionment with the party’s direction and alleged focus on political maneuvering over governance.

In a letter addressed to AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, Gehlot expressed his disappointment with the party’s handling of several issues, particularly the escalating pollution of the Yamuna River and what he described as “shameful and bizarre controversies,” including referencing Kejriwal’s official residence, “Sheesh Mahal.”

Gehlot stated that the AAP’s preoccupation with battling the central government was hindering Delhi’s genuine progress. He argued that the party’s promises, such as cleaning the Yamuna, remained unfulfilled, and that the numerous controversies were eroding public trust. He felt that the party was prioritizing political ambitions over its commitments to the people.

“We promised to transform the Yamuna into a clean river, but we have failed,” Gehlot wrote. “The Yamuna is perhaps more polluted than ever before. These controversies, like the ‘Sheesh Mahal’ issue, raise serious questions about our credibility. It’s become clear that Delhi’s true development is being stifled by the time spent fighting the center,” his letter further stated.

Gehlot emphasized that his resignation was a difficult decision but one he felt compelled to make to remain true to his commitment to public service. He asserted his intention to continue working for the betterment of Delhi’s people, albeit outside the AAP.

The resignation comes as a significant blow to the AAP, particularly given Gehlot’s prominent position within the party and government. The party has yet to issue an official response. Gehlot’s departure is expected to trigger further political discussions and analysis in the run-up to future elections.
