**Kozhikode, Kerala, November 15, 2024** – A group of 40 young residents in Kalpalli, near Kozhikode, have created a unique “Happiness Corner” for their elderly neighbors, providing a dedicated space for socializing and combating loneliness. Located on poramboke land near Mavoor wetlands, the ₹1.5 lakh facility, funded by the Nechayil Road Residents’ Collective, features a paved platform with seating for 15, handrails, and a scenic view.

Inspired by similar projects in other areas, the initiative addresses the loss of informal gathering spots for the elderly as the neighborhood developed. The Happiness Corner, inaugurated four months ago, has not only provided a place for seniors to connect but has also improved the cleanliness of the area, according to local residents. The scenic location, with its nearby streams and migratory birds, contributes to a peaceful and inviting atmosphere. The project’s success has led to suggestions that it could serve as a model for revitalizing other public spaces in the community.
