**New Delhi, November 16, 2024** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the progress of the Bodo community and celebrated the inaugural Bodoland Mahotsav in Delhi on Friday. Describing the festival as an emotional moment, Mr. Modi highlighted the transition from decades of violence to a present era of peace and prosperity. He emphasized the significant role of the Bodo Peace Accord in achieving this transformation, stating that it served as a catalyst for other peace agreements in the Northeast.

The Prime Minister recalled his 2020 visit to Kokrajhar, emphasizing the warmth and affection he received. He credited the accord with bringing over 10,000 young people back into the mainstream from violence in Assam alone, and urged those involved in Naxal activities to follow the Bodo community’s example.

Mr. Modi detailed substantial government investment in Bodoland’s development, citing a ₹1,500 crore central package and additional state funding exceeding ₹800 crore annually. This investment has facilitated the rehabilitation of over 4,000 former National Democratic Front of Bodoland cadres, including employment opportunities within the Assam police, and financial assistance to affected families. Significant infrastructure improvements in education, health, and culture, along with increased skilling initiatives for the youth, have also been implemented.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister highlighted the overall development of Assam under the BJP government, citing advancements in healthcare infrastructure (including a substantial increase in medical colleges) and tourism. He concluded by expressing the government’s unwavering commitment to supporting the Bodo community in fulfilling their aspirations for a brighter future.
