Fri Nov 15 12:20:57 UTC 2024: ## MIOT Hospitals Launches Robotic Surgery Institute in Chennai

**Chennai, November 15, 2024:** MIOT Hospitals in Chennai has inaugurated a new Institute of Robotic Surgery, equipped with the state-of-the-art Da Vinci Xi Robotic Surgical System. The launch was officiated by Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma. Subramanian, who toured the hospital’s operating theatre complex and witnessed the system’s capabilities alongside MIOT Managing Director Prithvi Mohandas.

The Da Vinci Xi system offers a 10-times magnified 3D view, enabling surgeons to perform complex procedures with enhanced precision and minimal invasiveness. This advanced technology is particularly beneficial for surgeries involving hard-to-reach areas or where damage to surrounding tissues is a concern. MIOT surgeons have already successfully performed three surgeries using the Da Vinci system, highlighting its effectiveness for gastrointestinal, oncology, and urological procedures.

According to MIOT doctors, robotic surgery holds several advantages over traditional laparoscopy. These include increased safety, greater accuracy, reduced complications, lower healthcare costs, and faster recovery times. The system utilizes a surgeon’s console, a patient cart, and a vision cart, allowing the surgeon to control the robotic arms through hand controls and foot pedals.

The Minister’s inauguration marks a significant step in MIOT’s commitment to providing patients with the most advanced surgical techniques available. With the new Institute of Robotic Surgery, the hospital aims to further improve patient outcomes and contribute to the advancement of minimally invasive surgery in India.
