**New Delhi, November 14, 2024:** Schools in Delhi up to Class 5 will shift to online learning indefinitely due to severe air pollution levels in the national capital, announced Chief Minister Atishi on Thursday. The decision comes as the city grapples with its second consecutive day of “severe” air quality, prompting authorities to impose stringent anti-pollution measures.
The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has implemented Stage III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) for Delhi-NCR, which includes the closure of physical classes for young children. This decision was taken after air quality readings reached alarming levels.
The Directorate of Education (DoE) has directed all government, private, MCD, and NDMC schools to transition to online classes for students up to Class 5, effective immediately. This includes both government-aided and unaided institutions.
The stringent measures under Stage III of GRAP are aimed at mitigating the severe air pollution currently affecting the city. The GRAP plan consists of four stages, with each stage triggering increasingly stricter measures based on the severity of the air pollution index.
The situation in Delhi highlights the urgent need to address the growing air pollution problem in the capital. While schools transition to online learning, authorities continue to implement measures to improve air quality and protect public health.
