Thu Nov 14 16:31:37 UTC 2024: ## BJP Leader Claims Plot to Kill Him After CID Summons

**Kolkata, November 14, 2024:** Former Barrackpore MP and BJP leader Arjun Singh has accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the CID of plotting to kill him. Singh, who was questioned by the CID on Thursday regarding alleged corruption during his tenure as Bhatpara Municipality leader, claimed that he has been threatened with “poisonous substances from Russia” and predicted his death from multi-organ failure within six months.

Singh, who has a history of switching political allegiances, joined the BJP in 2019, returned to the Trinamool Congress in 2020, and joined the BJP again in 2024 before losing his parliamentary seat. He believes the corruption allegations against him are politically motivated, claiming they only emerged after he joined the BJP.

The CID investigation focuses on a ₹four crore fraud at the Bhatpara Municipality during Singh’s tenure. While Singh alleges a plot against him, Trinamool Congress leadership has refuted these claims, with MLA Somnath Shyam labeling Singh’s accusations as stemming from “chemical imbalances”.

The war of words comes amidst heightened tensions in Bhatpara, where the murder of local Trinamool leader Ashok Shaw on Wednesday has reignited concerns over political violence in the area. The incident highlights the ongoing political strife in the state, further fueled by the latest accusations and counter-accusations.
