Thu Nov 14 21:10:39 IST 2024: ## Kerala Anti-Terror Squad to Investigate Seizure of Counterfeit Currency in Thiruvananthapuram
**Thiruvananthapuram, November 14, 2024:** The Thiruvananthapuram City police will hand over the case involving the seizure of ₹12,500 in counterfeit notes to the Kerala Anti-Terror Squad (KATS) for further investigation.
The case stems from the arrest of Bharkath, a Poonthura resident, a month ago. Bharkath, who had recently arrived from Saudi Arabia, was apprehended by the Poonthura police after she attempted to deposit fake currency at a local bank. The seized counterfeit currency consisted of 25 notes of ₹500. Upon examination by the government-owned currency note press in Nashik, Maharashtra, the notes were confirmed to be high-quality counterfeit.
A subsequent search of Bharkath’s residence yielded another batch of genuine ₹500 notes totaling ₹1.8 lakh. However, the origin of the counterfeit currency remains unknown.
The KATS will investigate whether the fake notes are part of a larger international network involved in money laundering and terrorist financing.
