**NEW DELHI** – The Delhi High Court has upheld the arrest and remand of Inder Pal Singh Gaba, a UK resident, for his alleged involvement in protests against the Indian High Commission in London in March 2023.
Gaba was arrested in April by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) after being detained at the Attari border while entering India from Pakistan. The court rejected his petition challenging his arrest, stating that the NIA had provided sufficient grounds and reasons for his detention.
The prosecution alleges that Gaba actively participated in the protests on March 22, 2023, which involved a crowd of around 50-60 protestors who shouted anti-India and Khalistani slogans, pulled down the Indian national flag, and attempted to tear it. Audio-visual evidence reportedly shows Gaba raising anti-India slogans and engaging in activities deemed to undermine India’s sovereignty.
The NIA’s investigation suggests these protests were part of a wider conspiracy to attack Indian missions and officials.
Gaba had argued that he was not provided with proper information regarding his arrest and remand, but the court dismissed this claim, citing that the NIA had followed legal procedures and supplied the necessary information.
The incident highlights the ongoing tension between India and pro-Khalistani elements, particularly in the UK, where protests against India’s policies have become increasingly frequent.
