Fri Nov 15 13:42:15 UTC 2024: ## Shivamogga Lawmakers Slam BSNL’s Poor Services, Demand Action

**Shivamogga, November 15, 2024:** Lawmakers in Shivamogga district expressed deep dissatisfaction with the state of BSNL mobile services during a District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting on Friday.

Leading the charge was Tirthahalli MLA Araga Jnanendra, who voiced his frustration with the lack of coverage in his constituency, even near newly constructed towers. “It’s better to shut down BSNL,” he declared, emphasizing the difficulties faced by residents due to the unreliable service. Jnanendra lamented the struggle to secure tower sanctions and the constant complaints he receives from constituents.

Echoing this sentiment, Shivamogga MLA S.N. Channabasappa highlighted the poor service even in urban areas. He stated that he has been a loyal BSNL customer for years, but the poor coverage in both his home and office in the city forced him to consider switching to a private provider.

While acknowledging the government’s investment in BSNL and the allocation of 141 new towers for the district, Lok Sabha member B.Y. Raghavendra, who chaired the meeting, emphasized the need for better service delivery. He expressed concern that the lack of maintenance despite the additional funds could hinder the impact of these improvements.

BSNL officials cited delays in obtaining forest clearances for 63 towers as the primary reason for the stalled construction. They stated that 46 towers in revenue land have been completed, with 12 operational.

The meeting underscored the growing frustration among residents and lawmakers over the inadequate service provided by BSNL. The officials have been tasked with addressing the concerns and ensuring that the newly sanctioned towers are operational as soon as possible.
