Fri Nov 15 07:14:52 UTC 2024: ## Social Media Platform Removes Graphic Dehradun Accident Video, Citing “Gratuitous Gore”

Dehradun, India – Social media platform X (formerly Twitter) has removed a video depicting the aftermath of a fatal car accident in Dehradun, citing “gratuitous gore” as the reason for its removal. The accident, which claimed the lives of six students and critically injured another, occurred early Tuesday morning when a speeding Innova crashed into a container truck.

The video, which showed body parts strewn across the road, was shared on X by a user identified as Chauhan. The platform subsequently requested the removal of the video, stating that it violated its content policies against sharing excessively graphic media.

“Exposure to gratuitous gore can be harmful, especially if the content is posted with intent to delight in cruelty or for sadistic pleasure,” X stated in its message to Chauhan.

Chauhan later apologized for not including a trigger warning and for not blurring the video to conceal the sensitive content. He claimed to have found the video on another social media platform.

While X has removed Chauhan’s video, other videos of the accident’s aftermath remain on the platform, but with blurring applied to hide the blood and conceal the identities of the victims.

The accident has sent shockwaves through Dehradun, with local authorities investigating the cause. Initial reports suggest the truck driver may not have been at fault. The victims, all under the age of 25, were traveling in the Innova.
