**Dehradun, Uttarakhand:** A tragic road accident in Dehradun, which claimed the lives of six young people, has prompted police in Uttarakhand to launch a road safety campaign, targeting the state’s youth.

The accident occurred on Tuesday at around 1:30 am when an Innova SUV, carrying seven friends, collided with a container truck near Kishan Nagar Chowk. The impact of the collision was horrific, leaving the vehicle mangled and claiming the lives of six passengers: Guneet (19), Rishabh Jain (24), Navya Goyal (23), Atul Agarwal (24), Kamakshi (20), and Kunal Kukreja (23). The seventh passenger, Siddhesh Agarwal (25), was critically injured and is currently undergoing treatment at Synergy Hospital.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the SUV was traveling at a high speed and attempted to overtake the container truck. However, the driver misjudged the speed of the truck, leading to the devastating collision.

The accident has sent shockwaves through the community, prompting police to take action. At a Yuva Mahotsav event held at Dehradun’s Parade Ground, top officials urged young people to adhere to traffic rules, avoid speeding, and refrain from driving under the influence.

Dehradun SSP Ajai Singh emphasized the devastating impact of such tragedies, highlighting that the loss of each young life represents a profound loss to families, communities, and the country as a whole.

Additional Director General of Police Amit Sinha highlighted the importance of immediate assistance for accident victims. He recognized the heroic actions of Deepak Pandey, a passerby, who helped transport Siddhesh Agarwal to the hospital. Pandey was honored with a memento under the Good Samaritan Scheme, which encourages bystanders to assist accident victims without fear of legal consequences.

The tragic accident has served as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety. Police are committed to raising awareness and implementing measures to prevent such tragedies from happening again.
