Fri Nov 15 13:20:00 UTC 2024: ## Jealousy, Lies and a Deadly Plot: The Murder of Alyssa Burkett

**Carrollton, Texas** – A 2020 murder that initially appeared to be a straightforward case of a jealous ex-boyfriend turned into a complex plot involving his fiancée, Holly Elkins, who orchestrated the murder of Alyssa Burkett.

Burkett, a young mother, was shot and stabbed to death outside her office, leaving her family devastated. Initially, suspicion fell upon Andrew Beard, Burkett’s ex-partner and father of their one-year-old daughter. While Beard was charged with murder, his fiancée, Elkins, claimed he was at home with her the morning of the murder.

However, a deeper investigation revealed a chilling truth. Beard’s truck was found to contain makeup that investigators believed he used to disguise himself as a Black man, matching the description given by eyewitnesses to the murder. Further, a GPS tracker was discovered under Burkett’s car, leading back to Beard’s home.

The investigation ultimately exposed that Elkins, driven by her hatred of Burkett, had meticulously planned the murder. Text messages between Elkins and Beard revealed her resentment towards Burkett, and Beard admitted to being “submissive” to her wishes, carrying out her deadly plan.

In a shocking twist, Elkins initially misled detectives, claiming she was innocent and wanted to help. This act of deception further highlighted her manipulative nature.

Beard eventually pleaded guilty to cyberstalking using a dangerous weapon resulting in death, receiving a 43-year prison sentence. But the true mastermind behind the murder, Elkins, faced a much harsher sentence. After a trial, she was found guilty on all counts and sentenced to two life terms.

This case serves as a chilling reminder that even the most seemingly straightforward crimes can be rooted in complex, hidden motives, and that justice can sometimes be served by uncovering the truth no matter how long it takes.
