Thu Nov 14 05:34:27 UTC 2024: ## King Charles Celebrates 76th Birthday by Opening Food Waste Reduction Hubs
**London, November 14, 2024** – King Charles III celebrated his 76th birthday today by launching two new food distribution hubs, a key part of his “Coronation Food Project” aimed at reducing food waste and providing support for those in need.
The project, launched last year, seeks to bridge the gap between surplus food and food insecurity. The two new hubs, located in south London and northern England, will serve as distribution centers for surplus food, ensuring that it reaches charities like FareShare and the Felix Project to be used for meals.
The King, a vocal advocate for environmental sustainability, will visit the south London hub and participate in a “surplus food festival” showcasing meals created from food that would have been wasted. He will virtually open the northern England hub.
The Coronation Food Project has already achieved significant results. Since its inception, it has helped save an additional 940 tonnes of surplus food, equivalent to over 2.2 million meal portions.
The King’s birthday will also be marked by traditional gun salutes at the Tower of London and London’s parks.
This comes amidst a busy week for the King, who attended the London premiere of “Gladiator II” on Wednesday evening. His wife, Camilla, was unable to attend due to a chest infection. The King’s official engagements continue to be monitored by his medical team as he undergoes treatment for cancer.
