Thu Nov 14 01:50:46 UTC 2024: ## Champions Trophy 2025 in Jeopardy as India Refuses to Travel to Pakistan

**LAHORE, PAKISTAN** – The future of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 hangs in the balance as India has informed the International Cricket Council (ICC) that it will not travel to Pakistan for the tournament. This follows the Indian government’s refusal to grant clearance for the team to travel to the country.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), designated hosts of the tournament, has taken a firm stance, rejecting any hybrid model that would see India play its matches at a neutral venue. The PCB has also demanded written confirmation from both the ICC and BCCI regarding their positions on the matter.

The two cricketing giants have not played a bilateral series since 2012-13, only meeting in ICC and Asian Cricket Council events. Last year’s Asia Cup, hosted by Pakistan, saw a hybrid model with India playing its matches in Sri Lanka.

Sources indicate that the PCB could face substantial sanctions from the ICC if it refuses to budge on its stance and the tournament is ultimately affected. This could include a significant cut in ICC funding. Moving or postponing the tournament would also result in a financial loss for the PCB, estimated to be around USD 65 million in host fees. This comes after the PCB recently invested in upgrading three venues – Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Lahore – specifically for the Champions Trophy.

Despite these potential consequences, the PCB remains adamant that security is not an issue in Pakistan, having successfully hosted England and New Zealand recently. They have reaffirmed their commitment to providing a safe environment for the Champions Trophy.

The ICC is yet to respond to the PCB’s demands and is currently discussing the tournament schedule with participating teams.

Adding further complications, the PCB has reportedly expressed a reluctance to host the tournament outside Pakistan, even in the United Arab Emirates. The planned launch event in Lahore has also been postponed, originally scheduled for October 21st in Dubai.

This latest development leaves the future of the 2025 Champions Trophy hanging in the balance. The ICC faces a difficult situation, needing to balance the demands of the PCB with the security concerns of the Indian government.
