Tue Nov 12 07:10:33 UTC 2024: ## Delhi High Court Seeks ED Response on Kejriwal’s Excise Scam Summons Challenge

**New Delhi, November 12, 2024:** The Delhi High Court on Tuesday sought a response from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on a plea by AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal challenging summons issued to him in a money laundering case related to the alleged excise scam.

Kejriwal, the former Chief Minister of Delhi, is contesting the summons issued by the ED based on a complaint filed by the agency. His legal team argued that the complaint was filed by a different officer than the one who issued the summons, raising questions about the maintainability of the summons.

The High Court, while refusing to stay the trial proceedings, issued notice to the ED to respond to Kejriwal’s petition. The ED’s counsel countered with a preliminary objection regarding the maintainability of the petition.

This case stems from the ED’s investigation into alleged irregularities in the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy. Kejriwal had previously challenged the summons issued by a magisterial court in a sessions court, which dismissed his plea in September. The ED had filed complaints seeking Kejriwal’s prosecution for avoiding multiple summonses issued in the case.
