Mon Nov 11 16:10:23 UTC 2024: ## Cooperative Bank Employees Protest Against Loss-Making Schemes in Thoothukudi

**Thoothukudi, November 11, 2024:** The Tamil Nadu State Primary Cooperative Bank Employees Union staged a protest outside the Registrar of Cooperative Societies office in Thoothukudi today, demanding the discontinuation of schemes deemed financially detrimental to cooperative societies.

The union’s petition highlighted the existing financial struggles faced by cooperative societies, exacerbated by the implementation of schemes such as the mandatory use of agricultural machinery like tractors and paddy harvesting machines. The union also voiced concern over the forced management of farmer markets, which are either non-functional or not established at all.

Further fueling their grievances, the recent renaming and reimplementation of “Amma Pharmacies” as “CM’s Pharmacies” are seen as a potential source of future financial burdens for the societies. The union expressed apprehension that employees could be held accountable for these losses upon retirement.

The petition emphasized that the employees’ salary agreements are directly linked to the financial well-being of the cooperative societies. Therefore, they urged the authorities to prioritize the welfare of both societies and employees by refraining from enforcing non-profitable schemes.

The protest was led by A. Beniksar, District President, S. Bala Murugan, District Secretary, and M. Jesuraj, Honorary Secretary, along with other union members.
