**LAKE FOREST, Ill.** – Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus announced today that rookie quarterback Caleb Williams will remain the team’s starter despite the Bears suffering their third consecutive loss this past Sunday, a disappointing 19-3 defeat to the New England Patriots. However, the coach also confirmed that major changes are on the way for the struggling Chicago offense.
“Caleb is our starter,” Eberflus stated, but emphasized that all other areas are under review. “Everything is on the table,” he said. “We will make adjustments, but I am not ready to disclose them at this time. We need to thoroughly evaluate everything – the lineups, the coaching, and the in-game communication.”
Eberflus acknowledged that one of the possible changes could involve a switch in the team’s offensive play-calling duties, currently held by offensive coordinator Shane Waldron. While he declined to comment on Waldron’s future with the team, he did state that any changes would have to be implemented swiftly.
“It’s got to be fairly quick,” he explained, “We need to be decisive and make the right moves for the Bears moving forward, this week and beyond.”
The coach specifically pointed to in-game communication as a major area needing improvement. “The adjustments, the tactical adjustments, need to be better with that on all sides. Everything is on the table. We need to look at everything and take the time to get it right.”
The Bears’ offensive woes have been glaring in recent weeks, culminating in their dismal performance against the Patriots. They managed just 27 points in their last three games, ranking near the bottom of the league in nearly every offensive category.
Williams, the first overall pick in this year’s draft, struggled against the Patriots, completing just 16 of 30 passes for 120 yards. He was sacked nine times, bringing his total to 18 sacks over the past three games.
Despite the struggles, Eberflus remains confident in Williams. “I want to check in with him, see how he’s feeling, his confidence level,” he said. “I know he’s confident, and he’s working well with the other players. We’re looking at ways to improve the scheme to help him succeed.”
While the Bears face a tough road ahead, running back D’Andre Swift remains optimistic. “It’s frustrating,” he admitted about the offensive struggles. “We have the talent, we just need to put it together. We have another opportunity to go out there and get it done. This isn’t the end of the season.”
