Tue Nov 12 04:20:00 UTC 2024: ## Vikrant Massey Faces Backlash for Comments on “So-Called Freedom” and Hindu Identity

Actor Vikrant Massey is facing criticism for his recent comments about India’s independence and Hindu identity, made during promotions for his upcoming film “The Sabarmati Report”. The film, which is set to release on November 15th, is directed by Dheeraj Sarna and also stars Rashami Khanna and Riddhi Dogra.

In a viral video clip, Massey can be heard saying, “We got ‘so-called freedom’. We need to understand that our country is quite new, just 76-77 years old. First the Mughals, then the Dutch, then the French, and then the British came and suppressed us for hundreds of years. The freedom we got, was it really freedom? We are still entangled in the colonial influences left behind by the British.” He further added, “Today, Hindus are finally getting their place and identity in their own country.”

Massey’s comments have sparked outrage on social media, with many users accusing him of making politically charged statements for the sake of promoting his film. Some criticized his use of the term “so-called freedom” and his comments about Hindus, suggesting that he is trying to exploit religious sentiments.

While some defended Massey’s comments, claiming he was simply expressing his personal perspective on India’s history, the majority of online reactions have been negative. It remains to be seen whether this controversy will affect the film’s box office performance.
