Mon Nov 11 10:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Vistara Takes Its Final Flight, Merging with Air India in Historic Move

**New Delhi, India:** In a move that marks the end of an era, Vistara, the full-service carrier renowned for its superior service, has concluded its operations, merging with Air India on November 12th. The merger, announced in November 2022, sees Singapore Airlines, Vistara’s 49% owner, take a 25.1% stake in Air India, with an additional Rs 3,194.5 crore investment.

The culmination of the merger sees the creation of a dominant full-service airline in both domestic and international markets. Though the integration faced hurdles including pilot shortages and salary discrepancies, a smooth transition is being facilitated for passengers.

Air India has deployed additional resources, including dedicated customer support staff and kiosks at airports, to assist former Vistara passengers. Vistara aircraft will be integrated into the Air India fleet and identified with a special four-digit code starting with “2”.

While the merger brings about a stronger entity with a fleet of over 200 planes serving 90 destinations, it has not been without its challenges. A section of Air India pilots is unhappy about differing retirement age limits, with the issue yet to be addressed by management.

Despite the challenges, the merger signals a new era for the Indian aviation industry. The combined entity, with a larger fleet and expanded reach, is poised to further enhance the travel experience for passengers.

The closure of Vistara, however, marks the end of a popular brand known for its exceptional service and comfort. The airline’s departure leaves Air India as the only full-service carrier in India, a significant change in the aviation landscape.
