Sun Nov 10 15:14:33 UTC 2024: ## Madras High Court Chief Justice Emphasizes Amicable Dispute Resolution, Especially in Family Matters
**Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, November 10, 2024:** Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, Justice K.R. Shriram, inaugurated a new District Munsif cum Judicial Magistrate Court in Kilpennathur near Tiruvannamalai on Sunday. In his inaugural address, Justice Shriram highlighted the importance of amicable dispute resolution, particularly in family matters. He urged litigants to explore mediation as a viable alternative to court proceedings, emphasizing the need for reasonability and compromise.
“The litigant should think whether he has been reasonable to his opponent, especially in a family dispute,” Justice Shriram said. “If the litigant thinks in that way, the dispute can be solved amicably.”
Justice Shriram also underscored the importance of accessible courts for all segments of society, particularly the poor, marginalized, and underprivileged. The opening of new courts like the one in Kilpennathur aims to provide easier access to justice for individuals living in remote areas who previously had to travel long distances to reach the district headquarters.
“Courts are not only meant to adjudicate but also to protect the vulnerable sections in the society and uphold the rule of law,” he said. “We should ensure that justice is delivered fairly and expeditiously.”
Justice Shriram further addressed the impact of digitalization on the judiciary, acknowledging the numerous challenges and opportunities it presents. He emphasized the need for the judiciary to adapt to evolving technology to enhance efficiency, transparency, and speed in the justice system.
“Courts will not only benefit with physical infrastructure alone but also align with our efforts to digitise the judicial process to ensure speedy justice and greater transparency,” he said.
The inauguration event was attended by various dignitaries including Justice D. Bharatha Chakravarthy and Justice K. Kumaresh Babu, Judges of the Madras High Court; S. Regupathy, Minister for Law, Courts and Prisons; K. Pitchandi, Deputy Speaker of Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly; and Tiruvannamalai Collector D. Bhaskara Pandian. Earlier in the day, Justice Shriram virtually inaugurated an additional sub court in Cheyyar town.
