Sun Nov 10 23:23:42 UTC 2024: ## Champions Trophy 2025 Launch Event Cancelled Amidst Scheduling Issues and Security Concerns
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has reportedly cancelled a planned event in Lahore to kick off the 100-day countdown to the 2025 Champions Trophy. The event, scheduled for November 11, was scrapped due to scheduling complications and security concerns, particularly related to India’s participation.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly informed the ICC that the Indian government will not grant permission for the team to travel to Pakistan for the tournament. This decision stems from ongoing security concerns between the two nations.
While the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi claims not to have received official communication regarding India’s non-participation, a BCCI source confirmed the information to PTI. The BCCI has stated that the ICC should inform the host nation, Pakistan, of the developments and finalize the tournament schedule accordingly.
The ICC has also cited the current weather conditions in Lahore, with record-breaking pollution levels forcing local authorities to announce a school holiday, as another reason for delaying the event.
Should India not participate, the PCB is likely to adopt a “hybrid model” similar to the 2023 Asia Cup, where matches are held in multiple locations. The ICC is currently in discussions with participating nations to finalize the Champions Trophy schedule, which will be announced through official channels once confirmed.
