Mon Nov 11 00:19:11 UTC 2024: ## Bangladesh Levels Series with Spin-Dominated Victory Over Afghanistan
**Sharjah, UAE:** Bangladesh claimed a convincing 68-run victory over Afghanistan in the second ODI of the three-match series, leveling the series at 1-1. The match, played in Sharjah on Saturday, saw spinners play a crucial role in Bangladesh’s triumph.
Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto led the way with a composed 76 runs, guiding Bangladesh to a respectable total of 252-7 after electing to bat first. Soumya Sarkar (35) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (22) contributed significantly to the total.
The Afghan batting lineup struggled against the spin attack, falling for 184 in 43.3 overs. Nasum Ahmed, with 3-28, was the pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mustafizur Rahman each bagged two wickets.
Rahmat Shah (52) and Sediqullah Atal (39) provided a solid start for Afghanistan, but the team’s fortunes turned after Atal was dismissed by Nasum Ahmed and Rahmat was run out following a mix-up with Gulbadin Naib.
Despite starts from Naib (26), Mohammad Nabi (17), and Rashid Khan (14), Afghanistan couldn’t build any substantial partnerships, with Mehidy and Mustafizur preventing them from settling.
“The wicket was difficult, especially against spinners,” said Najmul Hossain Shanto. “The way Miraz and Nasum were bowling, credit goes to them.”
Afghanistan skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi acknowledged the challenge of batting second under lights. “It was tough to bat under lights,” he said. “I think they scored 40 runs in the last five overs, and that was the reason. We did well, but the wicket was used, and it was tough to bat in the second innings.”
The decisive third ODI is scheduled for Monday at the same venue, where both teams will look to secure the series victory.
