Mon Nov 11 14:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Former Congressman Michael Grimm Paralyzed in Horse Riding Accident
STATEN ISLAND, NY – Former Republican Congressman Michael Grimm, who represented Staten Island and parts of Brooklyn from 2010 to 2015, is paralyzed following a horse riding accident in September. The news was confirmed by former South Shore City Councilman Vincent Ignizio, who shared a link to a GoFundMe page aimed at raising $2.5 million for Grimm’s medical expenses.
The GoFundMe page details the accident, stating that Grimm was thrown from a horse and sustained a neck injury requiring surgery. While he has miraculously survived, the ongoing care and treatment needed for him to walk again are expected to cost millions of dollars.
Ignizio, who now serves as deputy executive director of the New York City Board of Elections, called Grimm “a great friend and a great patriot” and urged Staten Islanders to support the fundraiser.
Grimm, known for his passion for horses and frequent posts on social media about his time spent at stables and playing polo, was reportedly playing polo when the accident occurred. He has been an active figure in Staten Island politics, running for Congress again in 2018 but losing the Republican primary to incumbent Dan Donovan. Since then, he has kept a lower profile but remained involved in some political activities, notably supporting Republican candidate Marko Kepi in this year’s state senate race.
This news comes as a shock to the community, and many are offering prayers and support for Grimm’s recovery. The GoFundMe campaign, which has already raised over $15,000, aims to provide the necessary funds for his medical expenses, offering hope that he can regain the ability to walk again.
