Mon Nov 11 14:24:36 UTC 2024: ## CPI(M) Demands Transfer of Road for Better Maintenance

**Dindigul, November 11, 2024:** The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has urged the government to transfer a dilapidated 800-meter stretch of the Nilakottai-Vaigai Dam-Usilampatti road from the Public Works Department (PWD) to the State Highways Department.

The party, led by Nilakottai union secretary M. Senthilkumar, submitted a petition to the Collectorate on Monday, highlighting the severe condition of the road, which is a vital route connecting Nilakottai and Usilampatti. The road is plagued by numerous potholes, leading to frequent accidents and inconvenience for commuters.

Senthilkumar emphasized the importance of this road for daily commutes, stating that it is used by hundreds of farmers traveling to the Flower Market in Nilakottai, as well as devotees visiting the Anjaneyar and Vallavar temples.

Despite repeated appeals, the PWD has failed to maintain the road due to alleged lack of funds. The State Highways Department, on the other hand, claims the road falls under the PWD’s jurisdiction.

The CPI(M) believes that transferring the road to the State Highways Department will ensure its regular maintenance and alleviate the suffering of residents.
