Mon Nov 11 05:38:57 UTC 2024: ## Food Delivery Giants Zomato and Swiggy Deny Anti-Competitive Practices Amidst CCI Probe

**New Delhi, India** – Online food delivery platforms Zomato and Swiggy have vehemently denied allegations of anti-competitive practices following a probe by the Competition Commission of India (CCI). Both companies maintain that the CCI investigation is ongoing and no final decision has been made.

The CCI investigation, which began in April 2022, was prompted by a complaint filed by the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI), alleging that Zomato and Swiggy engaged in unfair practices like preferential treatment of certain restaurant partners.

In separate statements, both companies clarified that the CCI’s investigation is still in a preliminary stage and the Director General’s report submitted earlier this year is not a final decision. Zomato emphasized that it is committed to complying with Indian laws and will continue to work with the CCI to demonstrate the legitimacy of its practices. Swiggy echoed this sentiment, stating that it is fully cooperating with the investigation and is committed to adhering to all applicable regulations.

The CCI’s April 2022 order, which triggered the investigation, highlighted potential conflict of interest situations stemming from Zomato and Swiggy’s investments in certain restaurant partners. The order also expressed concern about price parity clauses in the companies’ agreements, which could restrict restaurants from offering lower prices or discounts on other platforms.

Despite these concerns, Zomato and Swiggy maintain that the allegations are misleading and that the CCI has yet to issue a final order. Both companies have stated their intent to respond to the Director General’s findings and participate in upcoming hearings before the CCI. The final decision on whether any competition law violations have occurred will be made by the CCI after reviewing all submissions and evidence.
