Mon Nov 11 14:43:22 UTC 2024: ## Tirunelveli Corporation Takes Action Against Stray Cattle Menace

**TIRUNELVELI, November 11, 2024:** The Tirunelveli Corporation is taking a multi-pronged approach to tackle the growing problem of stray cattle in the city, especially along major roads. These animals pose a significant danger to motorists and pedestrians, leading to traffic disruptions and accidents.

The situation is particularly alarming at junctions like Melapalayam, Tiruchendur Road, the two-tier bridge, and near Vannarapettai, where frequent cattle encounters cause major inconveniences. “Riding on South Bypass Road at night is already risky,” shared Murugan, a regular commuter. “Adding stray cattle to the mix makes it even more dangerous.”

In response, the Corporation has already implemented several measures, including imposing fines on cattle owners. According to their data, 114 cattle have been impounded, and ₹6,000 collected in fines.

Corporation Commissioner N.O. Sukhaputra stated that first-time offenders were given warnings, while repeat offenders were penalized. He further announced the deployment of bull tamers to manage wild bulls, recognizing the heightened risk they pose to public safety.

This initiative reflects the Corporation’s commitment to address the escalating cattle menace and ensure safer travel for residents of Tirunelveli.
