**New Delhi:** Delhi Capitals, having retained four players before the IPL 2025 mega auction, are poised to appoint Axar Patel as their new captain, according to media reports. The decision comes after the release of former captain Rishabh Pant.

Axar, who was retained for a whopping 16.5 crores, has been a consistent performer for Delhi since 2019. He has played 82 matches for the franchise, scoring 967 runs and taking 62 wickets.

This move could potentially see Axar become the first Indian all-rounder to captain Delhi in the IPL. Previously, all-rounders James Hopes and JP Duminy led the team, while other notable captains include Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, and Zaheer Khan.

While the official confirmation is yet to be announced, Axar’s impressive performance and leadership qualities during his stint as captain in 2024 seem to have swayed the team management in his favor.
