Mon Nov 11 13:04:19 UTC 2024: ## Bangladesh Levels Series with Spin-Dominated Victory Over Afghanistan
**Sharjah, United Arab Emirates:** Bangladesh claimed a convincing 68-run victory over Afghanistan in the second ODI at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Saturday, leveling the three-match series. Bangladesh’s spinners proved decisive, restricting Afghanistan to a below-par total and setting up a thrilling final encounter on Monday.
Bangladesh, after electing to bat first, reached a respectable 252-7, with captain Najmul Hossain Shanto anchoring the innings with a composed 76 runs. He shared a crucial 71-run partnership with Soumya Sarkar (35) and another 60-run stand with Mehidy Hasan Miraz (22). Despite a late wobble, Bangladesh’s innings was salvaged by a crucial seventh-wicket partnership of 46 runs between debutant Jaker Ali (37 not out) and Nasum Ahmed (25).
Afghanistan’s chase was hampered by the excellent bowling performance of Bangladesh’s spinners. Nasum Ahmed led the charge, claiming 3-28, while off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz and left-arm quick Mustafizur Rahman took two wickets each. Although Rahmat Shah (52) and Sediqullah Atal (39) put Afghanistan on a solid footing early on, the dismissal of Atal and a mix-up that saw Rahmat run out turned the tide in Bangladesh’s favor.
Afghanistan, despite starts from Naib (26), Mohammad Nabi (17), and Rashid Khan (14), struggled against the skillful Bangladesh bowlers and were eventually bowled out for 184 in 43.3 overs.
“The wicket was difficult, especially against spinners,” admitted Najmul, crediting the impressive bowling of Miraz and Nasum. Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi acknowledged the challenging batting conditions, stating, “It was tough to bat under lights…We did well but the wicket was used, and it was tough to bat in the second innings.”
The series finale is scheduled for Monday at the same venue, with both teams eager to claim victory.
