Sat Nov 09 07:01:13 UTC 2024: ## India Slams Pakistan’s “Falsehoods” on Kashmir at UN

**New York, November 10, 2024:** India has strongly condemned Pakistan for its “falsehoods” regarding Jammu and Kashmir during a UN debate on peacekeeping operations.

Sudhanshu Trivedi, a Member of the Rajya Sabha and National Spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), delivered India’s response at the UN General Assembly’s Special Political and Decolonization Committee. He firmly asserted that Jammu and Kashmir “was, is and will remain an integral part of India,” highlighting the recent democratic elections held in the region. Trivedi demanded Pakistan refrain from such “rhetoric and falsehoods” as they will not alter the reality.

The Pakistani delegate had raised the issue of the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP), claiming its relevance in monitoring the ceasefire along the Line of Control. India, however, maintains that UNMOGIP has outlived its purpose, becoming irrelevant after the Simla Agreement and the establishment of the Line of Control.

Trivedi, who is part of a parliamentary delegation visiting the UN, further emphasized India’s significant contribution to UN peacekeeping operations as the largest troop contributor. He underscored the challenges faced by peacekeepers in modern conflicts, stressing the need for realistic mandates, robust security measures, and accountability for crimes against peacekeepers.

The Indian representative also highlighted the importance of exit strategies for peacekeeping missions and expressed support for the establishment of a memorial wall for fallen peacekeepers at the UN headquarters.

This incident marks yet another instance of heightened tensions between India and Pakistan at the international stage, highlighting the ongoing dispute over the status of Jammu and Kashmir.
