**New Delhi, India** – The newly launched Maruti Suzuki Dzire has achieved a remarkable five-star safety rating for adult occupants and four stars for child occupants in the latest Global NCAP crash tests. This marks a significant improvement over the previous generation Dzire, which scored only two stars for both adult and child safety.
The new Dzire, equipped with six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and pedestrian protection as standard, is the first Maruti Suzuki model to achieve a five-star rating from Global NCAP.
David Ward, Executive President of the Towards Zero Foundation, praised the Dzire’s achievement, stating that it sets a new safety benchmark for Maruti Suzuki. He expressed optimism that the company will strive for similar high safety standards across its entire model range, potentially transforming the vehicle safety landscape in India.
The Global NCAP tests evaluated the Dzire’s performance in frontal and side impact protection, ESC, pedestrian protection, and side pole impact. The car received a stable structure and footwell area rating, with three-point belts in all seating positions and i-Size anchorages as standard. While the driver’s chest showed marginal protection in the frontal test, the car offered full head protection in the pole test and full protection for adult occupants in the side impact test.
For child occupants, the 18-month-old dummy showed full protection, while the three-year-old dummy received good head and chest protection. However, the test results suggest neck protection could be improved by installing a rearward-facing child restraint system (CRS).
The previous generation Dzire, which is expected to be discontinued this year, offered only two frontal airbags and ESC as standard. Its structure and footwell area were rated as unstable, with weak chest protection in the side impact test. The pole test was not conducted as the previous model did not offer side head protection.
The Global NCAP #SaferCarsForIndia campaign, launched in 2014, has played a crucial role in promoting safer vehicles in India. Through over 70 safety assessments conducted since its inception, Global NCAP has pushed manufacturers to prioritize safety features and improve vehicle performance. The organization is confident that the positive trend towards safer cars will continue, leading to a significant reduction in road deaths and injuries in India.
