Sat Nov 09 17:43:10 UTC 2024: ## J&K Nursing Students Face Beard Restrictions in Karnataka College, Issue Resolved

**Holenarasipur, Karnataka (November 9, 2024):** A recent controversy erupted at the Government Nursing College in Holenarasipur, Hassan district, involving restrictions on beard growth for students from Jammu and Kashmir.

The Jammu and Kashmir Students’ Association, in a letter to the Chief Minister, alleged that two dozen students enrolled under the Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) were forced to shave their beards. The college administration reportedly mandated that students either trim their beards to a “01” trimmer length or be clean-shaven to participate in college activities, particularly for clinical duties.

Nasir Khuehami, the Association’s national convener, stated that students were facing “undue restrictions regarding their personal appearance,” citing cultural and religious practices as the reason behind beard growth.

However, B. Rajanna, Director of Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences, clarified that the issue has been resolved. He explained that the staff had issued general instructions on maintaining cleanliness during clinical duties, which were “misconstrued” by the students. After addressing the students’ grievances, the Director confirmed their satisfaction with the resolution.

A notice has been sent to the college principal seeking a report on the incident.
