Sun Nov 10 10:21:50 UTC 2024: ## India Dominates South Africa in Series Opener, Sets Sights on 2-0 Lead

**Durban, South Africa:** India kicked off their four-match T20I series against South Africa with a resounding victory in the first game, defeating the hosts by a comfortable 61 runs in Durban on Friday.

The visitors, batting first, posted a mammoth total of 202/8 thanks to a blistering century from Sanju Samson, who smashed 107 runs off just 50 balls. However, the lack of substantial contributions from other key batsmen remains a concern for India, with the team management looking to address this issue to prevent the burden from falling solely on Samson’s shoulders.

Despite the impressive win, the continued failure of opener Abhishek Sharma, who has missed numerous opportunities, is a source of worry. While Tilak Varma showed promise with a quick-fire 33 off 18 balls, he will need to convert these cameos into bigger knocks to solidify his place in the middle order.

India’s bowling attack, however, was on fire, restricting South Africa to a paltry 141 in 17.5 overs. Varun Chakravarthy continued his brilliant form from the Bangladesh series with three wickets, while Ravi Bishnoi also impressed with a 3/28 haul. The spin duo effectively contained the powerful South African batting lineup on a relatively flat pitch.

Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan also played their part in the bowling department, contributing to India’s impressive performance. With the bowling attack firing on all cylinders, India is confident of another strong performance in the second T20I, aiming to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the series.

KKR all-rounder Ramandeep Singh is likely to make his debut in the second match, replacing Axar Patel who bowled only one over in the previous game.

The second T20I will be played at the St George’s Park in Gqeberha on Sunday.
